All The Workout Wear We're Packing for Summer Travel
Tips for packing a sports-friendly carry-on in collaboration with Tracy Georgiou of Long Weekend
I’m about to head to Europe with a 1-year-old. This is either really smart (his plane ticket is free!) or really dumb (he doesn’t love sleeping on my lap anymore!). To combat my anxiety, I am thinking about pretty much everything else related to the trip instead of spiraling about nap schedules with a 6-hour timezone shift. Like what to pack for running in Austria.
Here’s where my head is at:
Shorts: I’m bringing four pairs. My trusty New Balance RC 3” Shorts, Tracksmith Strata Shorts, Soar Split Shorts, and my new H-O-R-S-E Short Shorts which I can pair with a button-down and sandals for casual walk-around stuff. Wearing running shorts as a fashion look– styled with non-workout blouses – is having a moment. I’m going to channel my innner
.Tees: Chances are it will be bra-only running weather, but since I like styling graphic tees with jeans and skirts and I need to have a top handy for visiting coffee shops, I’m bringing my favorite cotton tops. This Clare V Classic (I run in it all the time!), this On Club Tee, and my Running Wylder Boston one.
Bras: Allston or bust.
Run Pack: Janji’s got a wicked new 18L daypack called the Revy, which I’m excited to use for destination jogs. My husband refuses to walk around in workout attire (diva!), so this will be helpful to lug his shoes so he can change after a Danube dip.
Jogging Stroller: We bought this foldable jogging stroller from Target before we went to Charleston earlier this spring, and it works great as our travel stroller, too. Casper will sleep in it, which is a life-saver.
Shoes: I was considering getting the ubiquitous Adidas EVO for something that looks cool off the run, but I was just gifted the new 3Sixteen Saucony trail shoe and its off-white colorway fits my sporty-but-not-too-sporty brief.
My mostly internet, but sometimes real-life friend
of Long Weekend works with brands like Spence and Clare V. on creative strategy and is a travel savant, so I thought it would be fun to hear from her about how she’s packing for her summer adventures (think Italy, France, and London.) Tracy not only travels to the chicest places but she’s got her finger on the pulse of what’s next in the fashion world. I trust her taste implicitly and she’s a carry-on queen (like me!).How I Pack: Dream Fitness Destinations
By Tracy Georgiou
I’m ready to work out (wear) differently.
I feel a shift starting to happen in the exercise apparel space. Things are loosening up.
I’m in the gym, dance studio, or a yoga class daily, and when I look around there are still a plethora of Align Leggings, matching sets, and white tube socks… but signs of an evolution are starting to show.
MOVING AWAY FROM SPANDEX
I’ve found myself moving towards moving in a baggier pant. This is the 90s dancer child in me. I have a pair of the OG Body Wrappers trashbag pants (they still hit, but are less good for hot yoga FYI) that get into the rotation often. One of my favorite yoga teachers, Daphne, always shows up looking so cool. Recent pants she has worn and I have purchased are these from Free People & Nagnata. Never have so many people asked about what pants I was wearing than the Free People ones, shocking!
Recently, I traveled and did a yoga retreat and packed NO spandex bike shorts… and this was my hero pant.
Other honorable mentions: Tibi, Le Bonne Shop
FROM MATCHING SETS TO TEXTURED SEPARATES
As someone who loves a monochrome moment, I went HARD into matching set territory. But now I’m ready to break out, paving the way for tiny colorful striped knit shorts to take the place of a black bike short, like these ones: here or here.
My client Spence makes a men’s short that has changed my life. I have it in three colors and multiple sizes for when I need a little baggy vs. very baggy. This is the dream ‘borrowed from the boys’ short. It dries super fast (yes, this one is hot yoga approved) and looks as good at the beach or afternoon coffee as it does at the gym.
As mentioned, I went on a yoga retreat and did a few classes in a sports bra and CommeSi boxers. It feels good to move in cotton when I’m outdoors doing something light.
Honorable mention and top of my wishlist from Nagnata: here & here.
It’s crazy to think I work out daily, and there’s no ONE brand I go to for everything. It’s all cobbled together. I like that very little is pulled from the ‘technical goods’ section.
Let it be technical when it needs to be and otherwise just let it feel GOOD.
DREAM DESTINATIONS
This looseness in my workout wardrobe is inspired by my love of travel (and carrying on wherever I go)... There’s magic in the mix when you have a small suitcase and I love taking that mindset home with me.
In the spirit of travel inspiring us…
Time for some fantasy shopping… here’s where I want to go to workout and what I want to wear there.
PILATES IN POSITANO
HIGH on my list is the Dolce Vitality retreat that Le Sirenuse hosts every spring. The Sersale family has been doing it right for years, and I love watching them continue to bring new excitement to their storied hotel.
Hiking, pilates, amazing food, ITALY. Swimming laps in that pool wouldn’t be bad either.
I’m packing gear for this trip that looks great in town, by the pool, and in the mountains.

RALLIES ON THE FRENCH RIVIERA
Nestled in the hills of Ramatuelle in St. Tropez, ÉPI is my bucket list destination for some seaside tennis. Alt option would be the Mezzatore in Ischia, where I have played tennis and done multiple mud wraps. Can confirm it’s AMAZING.
In the spirit of packing light I’d be playing in the super light and comfy Spence Martina Tank and a waffle textured bike short (which I’d also wear bopping around town with a crisp white shirt, sandals and a fun tote)

SUN SALUTATIONS IN COSTA RICA
Hot off the tails of a yoga retreat in Croatia, I’m craving another seaside session… I’ve been dreaming of the annual spring Sky Ting retreat to Costa Rica. They haven’t announced yet but that doesn’t mean I haven’t started packing.
Beach-side yoga calls for bright colors, practicing in my bathing suit, and throwing on some terry shorts over top.
